Mousehunt Money Making Guide

This is a guide on how to make money in Mousehunt, the poppular Facebook game.

Mousehunt is the popular game on Facebook with over 40,000 players online at any one time. It is a fun and addictive game, but once you start playing it, you will need this guide.

Gold. The life-blood of Mousehunt. Gold is incredibly important for Mousehunt, and therefore finding ways to get gold is equally important.

“How do I get as much gold as possible?” The problem is that this question is very complicated. Everybody has different situations, and each unique situation affects what the best option is. Rank, trap type and cheese available all play a factor in where you should earn your gold. Consequently, this is the hardest page to write.

Still, I will try to take a crack at it. What I’ve done with this page is divided it by rank, and then further subdivided by location. Each location has an expected profit, along with an explanation of the setup required to get such a profit. I’ll do my best to also include alternate setups and how it affects your profit.

Novice, Recruit, Apprentice, Initiate & Journeyman

Expected profit per hunt: 80-320 (higher if you’ve got a gold shield)

Difficulty: Easy

Setup: Whatever you have

In the beginning, there isn’t much to say. To maximize your profit you’ll want to go to the highest-ranked area that you’ve unlocked. Once you’ve reached journeyman, the highest profit can actually be attained in the Harbour thanks to the high profit of the pirate mouse. However, profit is less important than collecting the two maps, so make sure to get your cyclops and ninja mouse with the map piece before you decide to move back to the harbour.

The best profit in the harbour can technically be attained with Swiss cheese, but the best option is probably brie. Brie attracts burglars, which drop flawless orbs, each of which is worth a few thousand of its own.

Master and Grandmaster

I’m going to lump the Master & Grandmaster ranks together, because the areas opened as a grandmaster (the lagoon and all of Furoma) are excellent for points, but less so for gold.

All of these setups have profits based on the assumption that you didn’t use a gold shield. If you’ve got one, the profit will go up a bit.

The Mousoleum

Expected profit per hunt: Cycle: 485; Moz: 675

Difficulty: Medium

Setup: SAMT/Dehy in Lab, Sinister/Exp in the Moz

There are two ways to view the Mousoleum and its profits: the mousoleum cycle, which includes collecting RB potions, and then the moz itself, assuming you already have the potions on-hand. As you can see, both options are quite profitable, although those who already possess the Radioactive Blue are put at a significant advantage.

The potion drop rate in the lab is about 10%, and masters can convert at a rate of 10 RB per potion when using brie. Grandmasters will have a larger conversion rate, so the overall profit per hunt of the “cycle” option will be higher- closer to 550 per hunt.

As a master/grandmaster, this cycle really cannot be beat. However, the returns are mitigated by the level of frustration that inevitably comes with it. Hunting in the lab can be really boring, and hunting in the mousoleum is very hit-or-miss, with lots of good and bad streaks. Still, for the patient hunter, this is the best way to increase your wealth.

Furoma

Expected profit per hunt: 445

Difficulty: High

Setup: Ambush/Bamboozler

Now I know I already said that this is a low-gold, high-point area, and that’s still true. However, for those hunters who are in it for the long haul, you can actually pull in a pretty nice profit. Maybe not as nice as the mousoleum, but it’s respectable nonetheless.

However, the difficulty is high for a reason: Furoma’s expected profits are based on averages, and given the three-tiered Furoma cycle of students, masters and the Mojo, all it takes is some bad luck on any of the three stages to completely throw this average off. You can minimize the odds of this happening by increasing the number of hunts that you do, but we’re talking hundreds of hunts, to the point that you’ll most likely have reached the rank of legendary and have access to better alternatives. That means that, realistically, you won’t be coming to Furoma to turn a profit.

The Great Gnarled Tree

Expected profit per hunt: 360 with MVMT; 400-450 with Ambush

Difficulty: Low

Setup: Ambush/Bamboozler; MVMT/Exp

As you can see, the profit is significantly less than the mousoleum. However, that’s balanced by the simplicity of gaining your profit- all it takes is some brie and you’re good to go. If you’re inclined, you can use gnarled that you collect for an increased profit, but your gnarled is better used in the lagoon, so I’d advise against that.

Ultimately this is a low-risk, low-return area. There’s no worry about having lots of redboxes or bad luck to mess things up, but on the flip side there’s also no chance of getting lucky and having some really great returns.

The Lagoon

Expected profit per hunt: 400-500

Difficulty: Medium

Setup: Ambush/Bamboozler; ETR/Candycane

As with the Great Gnarled Tree, it’s not the best option out there. However, unlike the GGT, it’s not as simple as equipping brie. You’ll need either gnarled or wicked gnarly to hunt here- gnarled has the lower return of around 400 while wicked gnarly’s return is closer to 500. However, if you’re going to use wicked gnarly, I’d wait until I have a good hydro trap- might as well go after the Silth mouse while you’re at it!

Legendary

Now we get to have some fun! At the legendary rank, you’ll gain access to the two high-gold areas of Mousehunt: Bristle Woods and the Tribal Isles. Enjoy!

Bristle Woods

Expected profit per hunt: 700-1600 (Up to 2,000 with a MSB)

Difficulty: Medium

Setup: OoS/Dehy; Acro/Dehy

At the start, the profits aren’t any better than they would be if you were hunting in the mousoleum- about 700 per hunt with either the Slumber or Inceration Obelisks. However, thankfully that’s a short-lived stage. Once you’ve progressed from the Obelisks to the ACRoNYM, your profits take a HUGE jump up to 1500+ per hunt. And as you get better bases, the profits go up. The best part? That’s with both Radioactive Blue and with Ancient cheese. That means that you’re free to use up all of your extra RB to start, and then switch over to Ancient once you run out- no more collecting potions in the Laboratory!

Once you do switch to Ancient cheese, you’ve got three options for hunting locations: The Catacombs, the Forbidden Grove and the Acolyte Realm. (Don’t use RB outside the catacombs- it’s not worth it).

Hunt in the Catacombs if you want Scrap Metal and Coal (expected profit about 1800)

Hunt in the Forbidden Grove if you want Runes and a smaller amount of Scrap Metal (expected profit about 1800)

Hunt in the Acolyte Realm if you want the best possible gold profit (expected profit about 2000)

So really, it’s up to you how you decide to spend your ancient cheese. Most choose the catacombs- you’ll need 200 scrap metal for your Molten Shrapnel Base and 36 coal for the Heat Bath. However, hunters who need neither ingredient can get some of the absolute best profit in the game by expending their cheese in the Acolyte Realm. The decision is yours to make!

It’s worth noting: these profits assume you’re spending 900 for each piece of ancient due to crafting. If you want to use ancient potions, you’ll have to take another 1200 off the profit, making it only 600 per hunt in the catacombs and 800 in the Acolyte Realm. Still a respectable profit, but nowhere near as fabulous as you’ll get when crafting ancient cheese.

And of course, owners of the AcroBlast can safely sub that trap in for the ACRoNYM and expect nearly the same results (a little bit higher, but really not enough to notice)

Derr Dunes

Expected profit per hunt: 850-1100

Difficulty: High

Setup: DDB/Exp; Rhino/Tribal

Ah, Derr Dunes. For the legendary hunter, this tends to be the place to get your profit. While the profit per hunt is clearly lower than in Bristle Woods, the cheese is simple to get- you just need to pick up some Gouda from the cheese shoppe in Cape Clawed. However, you’ll quickly find that this area is as bad as the Mousoleum when it comes to luck, and it’s only made worse when you equip Crunchy. The numbers above factor in a typical 15-crunchy run, and as low as catch rates are using the drillbot and rhinobot, it’s quite common to catch less of those mice than you expected, which brings your profit down even lower.

Of course, here’s the worst of it- For hunters with a Limited Edition trap, you can make out like a bandit: you’ll average 2,250 per hunt using a Chrome Drillbot with the Magma Base. It’s pretty clear why so many hunters who have no such trap are quite peeved- instead of having the best profit of any area, most hunters have an ultimately mediocre gold return and a lot of frustrations.

Nerg Plains

Expected profit per hunt: 750-1300

Difficulty: Easy

Setup: Ambush/Aqua; HVMT/Aqua

When you see the profits possible in Nerg, you really have to wonder what all the fuss is about Derr, wouldn’t you agree? While the expected profit with the Ambush is lower than the Digby Drillbot, once you’ve got yourself a Horrific Venus Mouse Trap, your profit nearly doubles. The reason for this is that while you technically get about the same profit per hunt with the HVMT as you would with the Rhinobot when using gouda, you’ll get a higher return with Gumbo, and you collect vegetables at a higher rate, giving you more gumbo cycles in the same period of time.

Users of Rewers Riposte can also further rejoice, as the average profit in a cycle is 1600 per hunt; that puts you right in the same range as Bristle Woods, without having to seek out stale cheese! But even without a Limited Edition Trap, Nerg is a great place for gold. Your catch rate is high enough that you can safely expect to avoid any really nasty streaks, and the profit is undeniable.

Lord+

Well, there’s not much that opens up once you hit this rank. Balack’s Cove gives decent profits, provided you have the vanilla beans. However, getting beans from pygmy mice is hugely unprofitable, so don’t bother unless you’ve got the beans (of course, if you do, expect profits in the realm of 1300-1400 a hunt). The Seasonal Garden is equally blasé, and while the profit is decent, it varies widely by season and never gets above 1000. The Tower’s even worse- because you really need SB+, it’s a total gold sink and offers no profit whatsoever.

No, what we’re really interested in is only one thing- Furoma.

Furoma (revisited)

Expected profit per hunt: 2000+

Difficulty: Hard

Setup: ZFM/MSB; RR/MSB

I alluded to this section earlier, but now it’s time to explain exactly what you can do if you decide to use a better tactical trap. Well, for starters, using brie gives a return of about 1100 per hunt with the ZFM and 1500 with the RR, which is strong competition with any other area. However, that number doesn’t take into account a neat feature of Furoma known as “cycling”. You see, when you catch a Master of the Dojo, you’ll collect Onyx Stones, which you can then craft into unstable curds. These curds can then be “poked”, and once poked they transform into one of several different cheeses at random. In most cases you will get either Onyx Gorgonzola, or more pieces of Combat/Glutter/Susheese.

Onyx Gorgonzola is the first part we’ll address. Because curds are dirt cheap, you’re basically getting the Gorgonzola for free. And while the catch rate on the Dojo Sensei isn’t high (close to 1/10), when you do catch one you’re looking at about 35,000 per hunt in profit, sometimes even 45 if you get a satchel of gold. However, the real prize comes when the Sensei carries orbs: a Dojo Sensei carries up to 3 divine orbs, each of which fetch approximately 20,000 on the market. That makes that one sensei worth 95,000! As you can guess, this brings up your profits in a huge way.

But we’re not done! By getting more susheese, glutter and combat cheese, you get a chance to go another round in the Meditation Room, which leads to more Rumble, which leads to more Mojos, who will drop more Onyx Stones, which makes more unstable curds, which… Well, you get the idea! It’s a cycle that perpetuates itself and allows you to stay in Furoma even longer, focusing on the much more profitable mice in the pagoda.

However, all of this profit comes at a catch- you need a LARGE base when you start your cycle if you want to see it really reap the dividends that we’re talking about here. I’d say a safe amount of student tokens is about 30 per school, and the more you get the better your returns will be. Getting 90 tokens using brie is… painful, to say the least. That would take about 400-500 hunts of brie to obtain. And while it’s well worth the effort, those first 400-500 hunts will provide you with almost no profit, which can make it kind of a frustrating endeavor.

Now, if you were lucky enough to get the Rewers Riposte or a 2010 Blastoff, I’ve got a better solution for you: Maki. I know, Maki’s expensive- SB+ currently costs about 4500, which means profit is really hard to come by. You would think that using Maki would be a waste of time if you want profit, and you couldn’t be any more wrong. As you know, Maki more than triples the attraction rate of student mice in the dojo, which means that, in turn, you get up to the Meditation Room and Pinnacle Chamber in a shorter amount of time.

Because of the way that this cycle works, providing higher and higher rewards for the longer you spend in the dojo collecting tokens, a person who spends 4500 per piece and buys 200-300 pieces of Maki can actually make just as much profit as the person using ZFM with brie. The reason for this is that with the RR’s higher catch rate against Mojos and Senseis, you’ll catch more of the really gold-heavy mice. In addition, you’ll also be getting more onyx stones, which means your cycles can last even longer with the Riposte than with the ZFM. That means more free cheese and more chances to catch the 27,300 gold Master of the Dojo.

Naturally, the Maki route presents an obvious obstacle- it requires a very significant capital infusion; not everybody has a million or two to spend on SuperBrie. However, for those people who have the availability, you can earn a couple of million in profit, and it only takes a couple weeks of solid hunting. You can’t beat those kinds of results!

As you can see, different trap setups and different ranks have a large effect on where your best profit lies. That’s why whenever you ask someone for advice on how to make the most gold, you need to tell them what you have. Your trap, your rank, what cheese you have- this all affects your options. If you’ve got an ACRoNYM and some spare stale cheese, then great! You can hunt in the catacombs. No stale cheese? Well then it’s off to Nerg for you. Haven’t gotten to Nerg yet? Well then you’ll be using RB in the catacombs. The important thing to remember is that everyone’s situation is unique, and you have to know what you have in order to decide what you’ll do.
